By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and be should be able to –

1. Explain farm animals.

2. Classify farm animals.

3. Enumerate of farm animals.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of –

2. Charts and pictures of different farm animals showing where they live mode of feeding and uses.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

 

INTRODUCTION

Farm animals are domestic animals raise on land. Farm animals are cow, goat, chicken, etc. They are produce as commodities such as meat, eggs, milk, etc. Farm animals are also used as labor.

 

Farm animals (livestock) can be classified based on four major things –

  1. their mode of feeding,
  2. their mode of breeding, i.e. how they produce young ones,
  3. their habitats, i.e. where they live, and
  4. their uses.

Farm animals (livestock) can be classified based on four major things their mode of feeding, their mode of breeding, i.e. how they produce young ones, their habitats, i.e. where they live, and their uses.

 

CLASSIFICATION OF ANIMALS BASED ON MODE OF FEEDING 

RUMINANTS

Ruminants farm animals are animals with complex stomach. They feed mostly on grass. For examples – goat, cow, sheep, etc.

 

NON – RUMINANTS

Non ruminants are other animals that feed mostly on tubers, grains, beans and fruits. For examples – pig, fish, chicken, etc.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils in observing and identifying farm animals;

Pupils Activities – Observe and identify various classes of farm animals by studies the charts and pictures.

3. Displays charts showing classification of farm animals;

Pupils Activities – Observe posters/charts of ruminants eating grasses and identify the animals and their feed.

4. Explains why ruminants can eat grass while non – ruminants cannot.

Pupil’s Activities – listen to the teacher’s explanation.

5. Guides the pupils to classify animals based on the mode of feeding.

Pupils Activities – Identify animals based on the mode of feeding.

6. Take the pupils to where these animals live for observation.

Pupil’s Activities – Observe and identify farm animals in their natural living environments, land and air.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
