TOPIC – FARM PRODUCE PRESERVATION

Content

  • Methods of Farm produce preservation
  1. Sun-drying e.g. fresh fish, pepper, yam, potato, etc.
  2. Smoking e.g. meat and fish.
  3. Frying e.g. meat, fish, plantain, yam, potato, etc.
  4. Freezing e.g. meat, fish and soup.

TOPIC – FARM PRODUCE PRESERVATION

Content

  • Methods of farm produce (Continuation)
  1. Canning e.g. milk, fish, meat, tomatoes, etc.
  2. Bottling e.g. milk, fruits, tomatoes, etc.
  3. Picking e.g. onions, cabbage, ginger, pepper, garlic, fruit, meat, etc.
  4. Bagging e.g. rice, garri, beans, etc.
  5. Salting e.g. meat

TOPIC – MATERIALS NEEDED TO GROWING CROPS

TOPIC – MATERIALS NEEDED TO GROWING CROPS – CHEMICALS

Content

  • Safety measures in applying chemicals
  1. Do not use your hands to mix chemicals.
  2. Knapsack sprayer and other spraying equipment to spray, wear protective clothing like gloves, goggles and marks.
  3. Do not use your mouth to blow the nozzle of the sprayer when it is blocked.
  4. Do not use your mouth or teeth to open a chemical bottle.
  5. Do not eat, drink or smoke while working with pesticides.
  6. Observe the wind direction when spraying.
  7. After spraying pesticides, always take a thorough bath or shower to clean your body.
  8. If you notice any symptoms like headache you don’t feel well after working with chemicals, see a doctor immediately.

WEEK 6


TOPIC – DANGERS INVOLVED IN EXCESSIVE USE OF CHEMICALS

Content

  1. Chemicals can kill crops.
  2. Chemicals can kill beneficial living things in the soil like earthworms.
  3. Chemicals can be washed away by rain into the streams and rivers there by killing fishes and other living things in water.
  4. Chemicals can be blown away by the wind contaminate the air.
  5. Chemicals can contaminate various sources of water like well, streams and river.

  • Steps in growing ornamental plants:
