TOPIC: Our Weather

Weather is the conditions or the state of the atmosphere with respect to heat or cold, wetness or dryness, calm or storm, clearness or cloudiness.

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

  • By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor):
  1. identify and write simple weather symbols;
  2. observe weather changes over a period of about three weeks;
  3. use the weather symbols to keep records of weather changes;
  4. prepare a weather chart.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

  • The pupils are required to already have learnt in basic 4:
  1. meaning of weather;
  2. factors affecting weather;
  3. weather instruments.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

  • The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
  1.  A chart showing the weather conditions,
  2. A chart showing the weather instruments;
  3. Various sizes of cans,
  4. Sheets of metal (aluminum)
  5. Cutter, Wires, Stands,
  6. Thermometer, Tracing paper,
  7. Graph sheet.
  8. A chat showing the weather symbols
  9. Cardboard papers
  10. Coloured pencil
  11. Crayons

WEATHER SYMBOLS

  1. Sun
  2. Rainfall
  3. Cloud
  4. Wind, etc.

THE WEATHER CHART

Everyday before the morning assembly, record the wind direction, temperature, sunshine and rainfall in your school compound, for one month.

Use the weather symbols, like the one as presented below.

Enter your observations and results in your workbook.

 

 

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Guides pupils to improvise weather instruments;
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Make improvise weather instruments.
  4. Use the chart to guide the pupils to identify and draw weather symbols;
  5. Pupil’s Activities – Draw weather symbols.
  6. Guides pupils to: make weather observations; keep weather records;
  7. Pupil’s Activities – Make a weather chart of their observations.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION

  • Pupils to:
  1. draw weather symbols;
  2. keep weather records (using personal improvised rain gauge);
  3. prepare a weather chart to cover a period of 3 weeks.
