By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the meaning of normal use of drugs.

2. state the effects of normal and abnormal of drugs.

3. list some normal use of controlled drugs.

4. participate actively in the drama drugs.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils identify drug and describe drug use.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of sample of naturally occurring and synthetic drugs.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

A drug is a substance that affects the operations of the body.

If we take drugs during sickness, they make us feel better, when we take them according to doctor’s prescription.

Some people abuse drug by using it without any doctor’s prescription.

 

NORMAL USE OF DRUG 

Normal use of drugs are drugs used in accordance with doctor prescription.

 

These drugs are either naturally occurring drugs or synthetic drugs.

 

EFFECTS OF NORMAL USE OF DRUGS

Drug use make people:

1. Heathy and fit

2. Active and strong

3. Live long

4. Sleep well

5. Results in excitement and joy.

 

LESSON 2 – ABNORMAL USE OF DRUG

Abnormal use of drugs are drugs used without doctor’s prescription.

 

EFFECTS OF ABNORMAL USE OF DRUGS

Drug abuse can cause any of the following:

1. Blindness

2. Loss of weight

 

3. Paralysis

4. Mental sickness

5. Heart attack

6. Death

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT 

 

PRESENTATION 

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. Revises the previous lesson based on previous the pupil’s previous lesson or knowledge.

2. Displays sample of naturally and synthetic drugs.

3. Asks pupils to differentiate between both synthetic and naturally occurring drugs.

Pupil’s Activities – Differentiate between both synthetic and naturally occurring drugs.

4. Asks pupils how doctors prescribed drugs for them when they are sick.

5. Asks if they have use those drugs the ways they were prescribed. If no, ask what happens?

Pupil’s Activities – Describe the possible of using use abnormal drugs.

6. Uses the last activity to introduce the lesson.

7. Discuss the the meaning and effects of normal and abnormal use of drugs.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the class discussion.

8. Gives cardboard to the pupils in group to make posters on the danger of using drug abnormal.

Pupil’s Activities – Educate others against drug abuse; Make posters for complaining against drug abuse.

9. Tells children stories about people who abuse drugs

 

10. Arranges for guess talk on drug use and abuse, if possible.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen and learn from the stories and guest talk.

11. Produces drama sketches on drug use and abuse.

Pupil’s Activities – Dramatize the effects of drug abuse.

12. Summarizes the points on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as instructed.

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
