TOPIC: HIGH JUMP 

The high jump is an athletics event which involves jumping vertically over a raised bar.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor):

  1. Iist materials needed for high jump.
  2. mention the skills in high jump;
  3. perform the skills in high jump.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

Running and basic jump

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Charts
  2. Video clips
  3. Posters
  4. Cross bar stand
  5. High jump pit/landing foam
  6. Whiteboard/chalkboard

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION – HIGH JUMP

The high jump is an athletics event which involves jumping vertically over a raised bar.

 

BASIC MATERIALS FOR HIGH JUMP 

  1. Pair of high jump stands with T – base.
  2. High jump crossbar made of polyethylene foam tubes.
  3. High jump mat made of foam.

 

 

HIGH JUMP BASIC TECHNIQUES/SKILLS 

RUN UP – Preparing for take off.

 

 

TAKE OFF – Period between the run and the take off.

 

 

FLIGHT – Traveling the air.

 

 

LANDING – Finish jumping.

 

 

RECOVERY – Standing on the feet. 

 

 

 

 

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Lists skills on the board;
  3. Explains the skills in high jump;
  4. Pupil’s Activities – Listen to teacher’s explanations.
  5. Demonstrates the skills in high jump;
  6. Pupil’s Activities – Watch and practice the skills.
  7. Supervises pupils demonstration.
  8. Pupil’s Activities – Copy the skills from the board.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
