TOPIC: VERBS
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –
1. identify verbs;
2. use verb in making sentences.
ENTRY BEHAVIOR
The pupils can identify some verbs like run, walk, jump, etc.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Course book, Real objects, Pictures
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION – VERBS
A verb is an action word or doing word that shows an action, an event or a state.
TYPES/IDENTIFICATION OF VERBS
1. Main Verbs
Main verbs are also known as action verbs. They are used to express action. Something that an animal, a person or a thing does.
For examples,
1. My future is bright.
2. He feels scared.
3. Eze goes to school.
4. The policeman is here.
2. Auxiliary verbs or Helping verbs
Auxiliary verbs are used to support or help the main verbs.
For examples,
1. He is writing a letter – is: auxiliary verb, writing: main verb.
2. She is eating a banana – is: auxiliary verb, eating: main verb.
3. They are playing football – are: auxiliary verb, playing: main verb.
4. The teachers are marking the answer sheets – are: auxiliary verb, making: main verb.
Exercises
Identify all the verbs in the following sentences:
1. Mrs Makelemi speaks kindly to her Pupil’s.
2. Taiye and Kehinde are wearing a clean and well – ironed uniform.
3. Michael is flying a kite.
4. The children are play under a tall tree
5. Seun sleeps in the biggest room.
Sentences building – construct five sentences using the following verbs:
1. Speaks
2. Speaking
3. Swims
4. Swimming
5. Wears
6. Wearing
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Displays charts showing pupils writing, a boy running, etc.
3. Lets pupils interpret the content of the charts.
4. Uses the charts and the pupils interpretation to introduce and explain the meaning and types of verb.
5. Guides pupils to identify verbs;
Pupil’s Activities – Identify verbs.
6. Guides pupils to use verbs in sentences;
Pupil’s Activities – Use verbs in making sentences.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – Adverbs

Ask pupil to:
1. explain the meaning of verb with appropriate examples.
2. differentiate between main and auxiliary verbs.
3. identify verbs in sentences.
