LEARNING AREA 

Lesson One – Air and water in the soil.

Lesson Two – Leaf litters and small rocks in the soil.

Lesson Three – Living and non living things in the soil.

 

TIME – 40 Minutes each.

 

LEARNING OUTCOME 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to identify the soil constituents i.e. air, water,  leaf litters, small rock, dead animals and living animals in the soil.

 

RATIONALE

Soil is an important natural resources. It supports human, plants and animals. It is used for building houses, construction of roads and bridges, moulding of pots, growing of crops.

There are living and non living in the soil. The concept of soil constituents will enable the pupils to appreciate and understand the concept soil constituents.

 

LEARNING MATERIALS

Charts of different soil constituents in the soil.

 

 

Different kinds of soils found in the school garden, roadside, bush; a hand lens; four transparent plastic jars; old newspapers.

Video clips.

 

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

Learners have learnt the importance of soil within and around.
