By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:n

1. explain the meaning of culture as a way of life.

2. give 5 examples of material culture.

3. give 5 examples of nonmaterial culture.

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils are required to already have learned culture.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of charts of –

material and non material culture.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

MEANING OF CULTURE 

Culture is a way of life of group of people.

A way of life means the way each group do their own things that’s different from other groups.

This ways of life include language, greetings, belief, mode of dress, religion, foods and drinks, ceremony, festivals, etc.

TYPES OF CULTURE 

Material culture

Material culture consists of actual objects or physical things like buildings, pieces of art, and clothing.

Non Material culture

Non material culture consists of the guidelines for group behavior, collective ideas, language, beliefs, and values. 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to discuss culture as a way of life.

Pupil’s Activities –  discuss culture as a way of life.

3. Leads pupils to differentiate between material and non material culture.

Pupil’s Activities – List items of material and non material culture and differentiate.

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
