PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. mention some physical fitness components.

2. identify activities for measuring endurance, strength and speed.

3. explain how endurance, and speed are measured.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils can perform basic exercise.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON 1 – FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES 

As stated in the lesson presentation.

 

 

LESSON 2 – INTRODUCTION 

Physical fitness is the state of health and well-being of a person.

It is the ability to perform a certain sports, occupations and daily activities.

The following activities are for maintaining physical fitness – 50 metres shuttle run, carrying of weights, Sit up, etc.

 

 

PHYSICAL FITNESS COMPONENTS/COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS 

A fitness component is simply a way of identifying and measuring a certain part of a person’s fitness.

In order word, it means one’s total fitness.

The followings are activities for maintaining total fitness –

1. Flexibility

2. Endurance

3. Strength

4. Agility

5. Balance

6. Coordination

7. Power

8. Time

9. Speed

 

 

FLEXIBILITY 

Flexibility is  the ability to move free the joints and muscles. That’s range of motion available at a point.

 

ENDURANCE 

Endurance is the ability to continue to perform a task without being tired – press up, minute run, walk – bench step on and off, squat thrust, etc.

 

STRENGTH 

Strength is  the ability to exert force – pull ups, sit ups.

 

AGILITY 

Agility is the ability to change position rapidly in space with speed and accuracy.

 

BALANCE 

Balance is the ability to maintenance at equilibrium.

 

6. Coordination

Coordination is the ability to be in control.

 

7. Power

Power is the rate at which one can perform a task.

 

8. Time

Time is the rate within space.

 

9. Speed – 50 meters dash

Speed is the ability to cover a distant within a short period of time.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher takes pupils out to the field to perform the following exercises – 50 metres shuttle run, carrying of weights, sit up, etc.

Pupil’s Activities – Take active part in the physical exercise.

3. During the activities, teacher measures and records the pupil’s total fitness.

4. Teacher uses the exercise and the ability and strength to introduce and discuss the meaning and components of physical fitness.

Pupil’s Activities – Based on the field activities, participate actively in the class discussion.

5. Summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

Asks pupils to –

1. Mention any three physical fitness components.

2. identify activities for measuring endurance, strength and speed.

3. describe how endurance, strength and speed are measured.
