PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain what is meant by electronic communication.

2. identify and explain the uses of the following electronic devices: telephone, television, e-mail, satellite, radio. www, ipad, fax and mobile phone/handset.

3. state the reasons why electronic devices often fail to work properly in Nigeria.

4. mention things which we can do make electronic devices work better in Nigeria.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils can identify and state the uses of some of the communication devices.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart of different electronic communication devices.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Communication is an exchange of information by speaking, writing, or using other medium.

There are two (2) of communication.

1. Traditional means of communication (manual)

2. Modern means of communication (electronic)

Exchange of information can be manually or electronically.

 

ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

Electronic communication is an exchange of information using electronic devices.

 

EXAMPLES OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES 

Examples of electronic devices are –

1. Television

2. Radio

3. Walkie talkie

4. Mobile phone

5. Email

6. Internet

7. World Wide Web

8. Satellite

 

 

LESSON 2 – PROBLEMS OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION IN NIGERIA 

The reasons why electronic devices do not work properly are:

1. Wrong installation

2. Inability to operate the device

3. Inadequate maintenance

4. High cost of maintenance

5. Increase in cost of subscription

6. Inadequate power supply

7. Vandalization

8. Weather

9. Poor transmission

10. Bad/poor signal

 

 

LESSON 3 SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION 

We can make electronic devices work well by –

1. Proper installation

2. Employment qualify operator

3. Adequate maintenance

4. Adequate power supply

5. Provide security for the electric stations

6. Modern machine should be installed to replace the old ones

7. Government intervention to reduce cost of maintenance and subscription.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher displays some of the available samples of electronic devices and chart showing unavailable electronic devices.

3. Teacher lets pupils identify and name each devices in group or pair.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify the and name electronic devices.

4. Teacher asks pupils to state the uses of electronic devices.

Pupil’s Activities – State the uses of the mobile phones, television, radio, etc.

5. Teacher uses the examples of electronic devices to introduce the lesson and explain the meaning of communication.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of communication.

6. Teacher uses the pupils responses in activity 4 (uses of electronic devices) to lead a discussion on the meaning of electronic communication.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the class discussion.

7. Teacher asks pupils in group or pair to make a list of ten (10) electronic devices.

Pupil’s Activities – Make a list of ten (10) electronic devices.

8. Teacher asks pupils to state some of the challenges faced when making or receiving calls.

9. Teacher uses pupils responses to lead a discussion on the problems and solutions of electronic devices.

Pupil’s Activities – Analyze the problems of electronic communication and suggest appropriate solutions.

10. Summarizes each lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
