THEME: 

TOPIC: Livestock 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

  1. Explain the meaning of livestock.
  2. Give 5 examples of livestock.

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils are required to already know some domestic animals.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of charts of different livestock animals. 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LIVESTOCK 

Livestock are domestic or farm animals. Animals like cows, sheep, chickens, pigs, etc. are rear for commercial purposes.

EXAMPLES OF LIVESTOCK 

  1. Chickens
  2. Turkeys
  3. Ducks
  4. Guinea fowl
  5. Cattle/cows
  6. Pigs
  7. Sheep
  8. Goats
  9. Horses
  10. Buffalo
  11. Camels 

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Guides pupils to identify domestic animals.
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Identify domestic animals.
  4. Guides the pupils to differentiate domestic animals from other animals.
  5. Pupil’s Activities – Differentiate domestic animals from other animals. 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – requirements for livestock management.

LESSON EVALUATION

Pupils to: 

  1. Explain the meaning of livestock.
  2. Give 5 examples of livestock.
