TOPIC: Reading Letters of Invitation and Replies – Formal and Informal

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to read letter of invitation and replies.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Course book – MacMillan Brilliant Primary English, book 6, page 36 – 40.
  2. Newspapers and magazines cuttings.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

  1. Formal features of invitation and replies expressing acceptance and regrets – birthday, celebration of victory or success, annual dinner of literary, etc. 
  2. Style of the letters.
  3. Tone of such letters
  4. Lexis and structures commonly used in such letters.
  5. Pronunciation, stress and intonation practice.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to the reading letter based on the contents.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s reading.

3. Lets pupils read and make necessary correction of words.

Pupil’s Activities – Read in turns with appropriate pronunciation.

4. Discusses the contents of the reading passage.

Pupil’s Activities – Read the letters silently on their own. Answers questions set on them.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
