TOPIC: Choosing A Career
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:
- explain the term career.
- mention different types of career.
- identify and choose their future careers.
- explain the importance of dignity of labour.
ENTRY BEHAVIOR
The pupils are have learned/learning hand work and trading.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of pictures of various occupations.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
CAREER
Career is the job or occupation that someone does for a long period of their life.
TYPES OF CAREER
- Carpentry.
- Welding.
- Engineering
- Hair Plaiting
- Tailoring.
- Teaching.

DIGNITY OF LABOUR
Dignity means respect while labour means work. Dignity of labour is the respect for all types of work. We must work to earn:
- Respect
- Satisfaction
- Independence
- Confidence.

PRESENTATION
- To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
- To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
- Defines Career.
- Pupil’s Activities – Participates in class discussion.
- Asks pupils to mention the work their parents do.
- Pupil’s Activities – Mention parents occupations.
- Guides pupils to select suitable occupations.
- Pupil’s Activities – Participates in the selection of carer.
- Leads the pupils to discover that there is dignity in labour (all jobs are important).
- Pupil’s Activities – Listen and copy notes.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – decision making.
LESSON EVALUATION
Pupils to:
- explain the term career.
- mention six types of career.
- list six careers and choose three according to their scale of preference.
- mention four importance of dignity of labour.
