TOPIC: CLIMATE AND WHAT CONSTITUTE THE WEATHER 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. Explain the meaning of climate.

2. State what constituents climate.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils are required to already have learned classes of plant and animals.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of of map of Nigeria and course books.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

MEANING OF CLIMATE

Climate is the average weather conditions over a given period of time. It is the change in weather over a period of time or given place.

 

WHAT CONSTITUENTS CLIMATE

The things that make up the climate are:

Temperature

Temperature is the hotness or coldness of a place over given period of time. There are two seasons in Nigeria – the rainy and dry season. This determine the distribution of crops and plants.

 

Rainfall

Rainfall is the amount of rain that fall at a particular place or time.

 

Sunlight

Sunlight is the amount of energy or light received from the sun.

 

Wind

Wind is the natural movement of air from time to time. It can be observed as trees, dust or particles move under its force.

 

Humidity

Humidity is the amount of water vapour present in air.

 

Atmosphere pressure

Atmospheric pressure is the pressure within the earth’s surface.

 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides the pupils to discuss the present condition of the atmosphere.

4. Discusses the things that made up the climate.

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – distribution of crops.
