TOPIC: Making report with attention placed on the pronouns 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able make correct sentences in reported speech with emphasis on the person.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Relevant picture/objects.
  2. Course book.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

CHANGE DIRECT SPEECH TO REPORTED SPEECH 

How to turn direct speech to reported speech with emphasis on pronouns:

  • Speaker – Am I in your way?

Reporter: He wanted to know if he was in my way.

  • Speaker – Did you see the match yesterday?

Reporter: Olu wanted to know whether I saw the match the previous day.

  • Speaker – I like ice cream.

Reporter: He liked ice cream.

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Presents short dialogues containing proper nouns of person and turn these into reported speech with appropriate change of the proper noun.
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Listen attentively to the teacher
  4. Lets pupils produce similar dialogues simple stories and sentences.
  5. Pupil’s Activities – Produce dialogue, simple stories and sentences with the structural patterns learnt.
  6. Keenly examine pupil’s production

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson –

LESSON EVALUATION

Pupils to convert sentences containing proper nouns to indirect or reported speech.
