TOPIC: VERBS FORMED FROM ADJECTIVES 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. Prepare a list of adjectives and verbs formed from certain words.

2. Use the adjectives and verbs in sentences orally.

3. Use them in writing.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of course book, flash cards and board.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WORD FORMATION 

Adjectives – Suffix – Verbs 

1. Glad – gladden

2. Wide – widen

3. Broad – broaden

4. Sad – Sadden

5. Pure – purify

6. Simple – simplify

7. Popular- popularize

 

Using both forms of the words in meaningful situations.

 

Verb – The sight of a mother feeding her baby gladdens the heart.

Adjectives – The sight of a mother feeding her baby make me glad.

Adjectives – Your horizon is wide, mine is narrow.

I want to travel out so I can widen it.

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teaches the first adjectives words and lead the pupils to change them to verbs;

Pupil’s Activities – Change adjectives to verbs

3. Encourages pupils to use words both in the adjectives form and in the verb form;

Pupil’s Activities – Use both words to make sentences.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

Pupils to:

1. Form verbs from adjectives correctly.

2. Use them in meaningful situations.
