PRIMARY 4

PREVIOUS LESSON – BASIC BODY MOVEMENTS IN DANCE II (PRIMARY 4)

TOPIC: INTRODUCTION TO PLAY ACTING 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to define –

1. play acting

2. character

3. impersonation

4. role play

5. costume

6. make-up.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Pictures/posters of actors/actresses.
  2. Sample costumes and make up kit
  3. Lighting and make up.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

PLAY ACTING 

Play acting is one’s ability to impress and entertain people in a play or drama.

 

IMPERSONATION 

Impersonation is when someone pretends to be another person in names and characters.

 

ROLE PLAYING 

Role play is one’s ability to imitate the character and behavior of another person different from his/herself. For example, Funke Akindele as Jenifa, Odunlade Adekola as Saamu Alajo, etc.

 

COSTUME

Costume is an outfit that enables someone to be suitable for a particular activities. For examples, an outfit of a pastor, alfa, herbalist, witch, half human and half fish, etc.

 

MAKE – UP

Make up is something used to create appearance different from original look during a play. For example – gray hair or beard, tribal marks, etc.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2.Explains to the pupils – play acting, character and impersonation,  role play,  costume and make-up.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to teachers explanations and takes down notes on book the meanings of play acting, character and impersonation, role play, costume.

3. Leads the pupils to participate in improvised class drama.

Pupil’s Activities – Participates in an improvised class drama.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – play acting.

 

LESSON EVALUATION

Pupils to:

1. define play.

2. define/explain character and impersonation.

3. explain what costume and makeup are.

4. participate in an improvised class drama.
