LEARNING OUTCOME 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. identify and classify rocks according to colour, hardness, texture, etc.

2. list some important uses of rocks such as construction, beautification, etc.

3. name some major landmark rocks in Nigeria.

 

RATIONALE

Rocks are solid minerals. They are the hardest part of the earth’s surface. They include – pebble, sand, silt and clay formed from rocks. Rocks, also known as stones are found anywhere and used for building houses, construction of roads and bridges, cements and chalks production, beautification and decorative, arts, etc.

The concept of rocks will enable the pupils to identify, understand and appreciate different types of rocks and their uses.

 

LEARNING MATERIALS 

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Different samples of rocks.

2. Charts showing types of rocks and their uses.

 

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

The understand the rocks are solid materials and they are used for building and construction of roads and bridges.

In this lesson  the pupils learn and identify different types of rocks, classification of rocks according to their colors, textures and uses.
