By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and able to:

1. Describe an adverb.

2. Use adverbs to describe verbs.

3. Use adverbs of comparison.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Course book

2. Flannel board

3. Materials around the classroom.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

ADVERB

Adverb is a word that is used to modify an adjective, verb, or adverb.

 

ADVERBS OF COMPARISON 

An adverb shows how can action is performed. Adverbs of comparison say more about verbs in different degrees.

 

CORRECT USE OF ADVERBS – quietly, slowly, carefully, etc. 

1. Quietly

2. Legible

3. Slowly

4. Carefully, etc.

1. He slowly entered the room.

2. She carefully drove through the city.

 

CORRECT USE OF ADVERBS OF COMPARISON – more often, more quickly, etc.

1. Hammed walks more slowly than Ngozi.

2. David walks most slowly of the three.

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

Helps pupils form their table of comparison.

Pupil’s Activities – Do several actions in set of two, three and compare them.

2. Lets pupils use words in situation which will bring out the meaning of the sentences.

Pupil’s Activities – Make sentences, describe the action  e.g. Walk slowly, walk more slowly than that. Hammed walks more slowly than Ngozi. David walks most slowly of the three.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

Pupils to:

1. Describe an adverb correctly.

2. Use adverbs to describe verbs correctly.

3. Use adverbs of comparison correctly.
