LEARNING AREA

  1. Lesson One – Capacity and Units (1 litre = 1000cm^3)
  2. Lesson Two – Relationship Between Litre and Cubic Centimetre – Litres as cm^3
  3. Lesson Three – Problems Solving
  4. Lesson Four – Revision and Test

TIME – 40 Minutes each.

LEARNING OUTCOME

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. find the relationship between litres and cubic centimeters.
  2. identify the use of litre as a unit of capacity and the established relationship between litre and cm^3.

RATIONALE

Capacity is the amount of space that a container occupies. Examples of container are tin milks, bottle or plastic minerals, buckets, gallons, water tank, fuel tank, drum, etc. Containers of different sizes does not have the capacity. Capacity measures liquid in litres. That is, the volume of liquid of a container. The concept capacity will enable the learners understand and appreciate the capacity of different containers.

LEARNING MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Samples of containers of different sizes
  2. Chart of containers of different sizes
  3. Sample/chart of 10 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm cube.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

The learners have the understanding of different containers like bottle of beer, coke, seaman (different sizes), chelsea gin, etc. used in measuring kerosene, palm and groundnut oil. Also, Tin and plastic containers like ragolis, gallon and drum (different sizes) diesel, petroleum, etc.
