By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. list different types of decorative stitches.

2. describe the steps in making chain decorative stitches.

3. produce decorative chain stitches.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Charts showing stages of making stitches

Pieces of fabric for making stitches

Sewing tools – needle, pins, tapes…

An album showing stages of making temporary, permanent and decorative stitches

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION

A stitch is the joining of two pieces of material with a line of stitches. That’s, movement of thread and needle in and out of the materials.

One of the types not mentioned along with temporary and permanent stitches. This is because it is classified under permanent stitches.

 

 

SIMPLE DECORATIVE STITCHES 

Simple Decorative stitches are tiny pieces of thread art work on fabric. It is used for decorating fabrics or clothes.

 

TYPES OF DECORATIVE STITCHES 

1. Chain

2. Blanket

3. Herring borne

4. Satin

5. Feather

6. French Knott

7. Fly

8. Cross

9. Stem

LESSON TWO

 

PRACTICAL WORK ON BROWN PAPER – CHAIN DECORATIVE STITCHES 

Chain stitches are connected stitches that form a chain.

Steps:

1. Bring needle out of the line to be stitched

2. Hold the thread to the left.

3. Put the needle back to where it has just come out.

4. Bring it out in short space further down.

5. Press the thread under the needle from left to right.

6. Draw the needle through to form the first link of the chain.

8. Put the needle back into the material just inside the link.

 

 

LESSON TWO – REVISION AND WEEK 5 LESSON ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or produce by the pupils. 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Demonstrates the process of making chain decorative stitches.

Pupil’s Activities – Practice the making of chain decorative stitches.

3. Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Produce articles using chain decorative stitches.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
