PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. Identify the natural position of an adverbial phrase of time.

Change the position in a way that alters the meaning.

Dramatize the situation with one group using the adverbial in initial position, the other terminal position.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

flash card showing adverbial phrases.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

MOVABLE ADVERBIAL PHRASES IN SENTENCES IN INITIAL AND FINAL POSITIONS 

An adverb of time tells us when the action of a verb takes place.

 

For examples:

  • Last year, we were in lower basic three.

We were in lower basic three last year.

 

  • When she came, I was eating.

I was eating when she came.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Lets pupils prepare a list of some adverbial under supervision.

3. Uses these adverbial in meaningful sentences, putting one at the beginning and another at the end.

Pupil’s Activities – Change the position of adverbial phrases of time, working with the teacher.

4. Guides pupils to make sentences of their own with adverbials putting them in these positions.

4. Divides the class into two, one group for the initial position and the other for the terminal position.

Pupil’s Activities – Make sentences with adverbial phrases in initial or terminal position.

5. Discusses the difference in meaning.

Pupil’s Activities – Do reading and writing  after series of oral drills.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Pupils to:

1. Identify the natural position of an adverbial phrase of time.

2. Change the position in a way that alters the meaning.

3. Make correct sentences.
