Lesson One – Properties of Square

Lesson Two – Properties of Rectangle

Lesson Three – Area of Square

Lesson Four – Area of Rectangle

Lesson Five – Revision, Quantitative and Test

 

TIME – 40 Minutes each.

 

LEARNING OUTCOME 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. find area of square and rectangles using the formula.

2. calculate areas of shapes, farmland etc. in the environment.

3. solve problems on quantitative aptitude related to areas.

 

 

RATIONALE

Rectangles and squares are found everywhere around you. These are the list of all the things around you at this moment that are rectangular or square. A possible list includes paper, calendar, books, windows, walls, ceiling, floor, the top of the desk, sides of the desk, desk drawers, waste basket and calculator.

In this lesson, the pupils will understand and appreciate the area covered rectangular and square shapes.

 

LEARNING MATERIALS 

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Cardboard and unit square chart

Classrooms

Desktops

Farmland, etc.

 

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE 

Rectangle and square are four sided figures. The following are four sided shapes – paper, calendar, books, windows, walls, ceiling, floor, the top of the desk, sides of the desk, and calculator.
