TOPIC: Temperature

LEARNING AREA

Lesson One – Heat

Lesson Two – Temperature

Lesson Three – Different Between Heat and Temperature

Lesson Four – Revision and Test

TIME – 40 Minutes each.

LEARNING OUTCOME

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. distinguish between heat and temperature.

2. use the thermometer to measure the temperature of objects accurately.

RATIONALE

Heat is a form of energy. In everyday language, heat and temperature are often used as if they are the same thing. They are not. When a pot of water is heated it gains energy and becomes hotter. Its temperature goes up. Heat is the cause, a rise in temperature is the effect. When a substance is hot, the temperature is high and when the substance is less hot (cold), the temperature is lower. Temperature can be measured with a thermometer.

The concept of temperature will help the pupils to have the ideal of temperature in the body, of the sun and rain, boiling and freezing points, etc. and interpret the temperature in our environment.

LEARNING MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. A chart showing different thermometers.

2. A chart showing the units and symbols of temperature correctly.

3. Different thermometers

4. Flask of hot water.

5. Some ice water.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

Temperature is a measure of how hot or cold something is; the body’s temperature, the temperature of water, air, and other liquid. This is a general knowledge when walking in the sun or rain, boiling or freezing or water or other things.
