TOPIC: Three – Dimensional Shapes 

LEARNING AREA 

  • Lesson One – Sorting three – dimensional shapes
  • Lesson Two – Identifying and naming solids
  • Lesson Three – Objects in our environment that are three – dimensional shapes
  • Lesson Four – Distinguishing between cubes and cuboids
  • Lesson Five – Revision, Quantitative and Test

TIME – 40 Minutes each.

LEARNING OUTCOME 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. sort three-dimensional (3-dimensional) objects into cubes, cuboids, cylinders and spheres.
  2. identify and name three-dimensional objects as cubes, cuboids, cylinders and spheres.
  3. distinguish between cubes and cuboids.
  4. name objects in the environment that are 3-dimensional shapes.

RATIONALE

The objects around you — the ones you can pick up, touch, and move around — are three – -dimensional.  Solid objects can be classified as cubes (dice), cuboids (bread), cylinders (tin of tomato) and spheres (ball). The concept of this lesson will enable to identify three dimensional shapes according to their classification.

LEARNING MATERIALS 

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Ludo dice, match boxes, empty packets of sugar, empty tins of Milo, milk, balls of different sizes etc.
  2. Charts showing pictures of Cuboids, Cubes, Cylinder, Spheres.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

Three dimensional shapes are dice, maggi cube, bread, matchbox, tin of milk and milo, ball, etc. The pupils will be able to recognize, identify and classify three dimensional shapes according to their similarity.
