TOPIC – CONSEQUENCES OF POOR SERVICE AND WHY GOVERNMENT IS UNABLE TO Provide SERVICES 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. Mention the consequences of poor services.

2. State reasons why government is unable to provide service.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Pictures of government workers in offices.

 

2. Resource person from government offices.

3. Flip chart

4. Use cartoon pictures of people doing the opposite for summary. That’s people running away from tax officer, somebody on PHCN wire etc.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

INTRODUCTION

Services provided by the government should be reliable and of high quality.

Government workers who manage these services must be hardworking, honest and dedicated, in order to make the country a good and comfortable place.

 

When the government and its workers failed to meet the people expectations, it is called poor service.

 

CONSEQUENCES OF POOR SERVICES 

If the services offered by the government are poor, the following will happen –

1. Lack of trust

2. High cost of living

3. Ineffective workforce

4. Disorganization and confusion

5. Insecurity

6. Anarchy and frustration

 

WHY GOVERNMENT IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE SERVICES 

People enjoy and get disappointed by some of the government’s services because they are either unavailable or they are available but poor.

Here are reasons why government unable to provide some services –

1. Increase in population

2. Insensitivity to people’s need – government do not care about what the people need.

3. Corruption

4. Inadequate planning

5. Lack of maintenance culture

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

 

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Leads pupils to discuss the quality of some government essential services.

3. Uses the discussion and pupil’s active participation to use the lesson.

4. Guides pupils to discuss consequences of poor services.

5. Discusses the reasons why government is unable to provide service.

6. Summarizes each of the lesson on the board.

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
