TOPIC – STATE GOVERNMENT 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

  1. State the meaning, composition and motto of state government.
  2. Mention the 3 tier of government.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Map of Nigeria showing the 36 states and FCT Abuja.
  2. A diagram of the 3 tiers of government
  3. Photographs of joint projects between state and local governments.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

INTRODUCTION 

STATE GOVERNMENT 

State Government is the body of people who control the affairs of many local governments. A state government is much bigger than a local government.

THE THREE(3) TIER OF STATE GOVERNMENT 

  1. Governor – Babajide Sanwo-Olu
  2. Deputy Governor – DR. Obafemi Hamzat
  3. Commissioners

Lets the pupils mention the governor and deputy governor of the state. 

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Asks the pupils to mention their state of origin.
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Mention their state of origin.
  4. Guides them to locate their state of origin on the map of Nigeria.
  5. Pupil’s Activities – Locate their state of origin on the map of Nigeria.
  6. On the chart showing governors and deputy governors, lets the pupils identify the governor and deputy governor of their state.
  7. Pupil’s Activities – Identify the governor and deputy governor of their state.
  8. Discuss the meaning of state government.
  9. Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning of state government.
  10. Lists the 3 tiers of state government.
  11. Pupil’s Activities – Mention 3 tiers of state government.

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
  • Next Lesson – The Importance of State Government
