CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITY 1

Teacher’s Activities – Lead the pupils to review the lesson learnt on storage devices. For example,

  • The meaning of storage
  • Types of storage devices
  • The meaning (Types) of external storage devices

Pupil’s Activities – Storage device is….. There are two (2) of types of storage device, etc

Teacher’s remark – Give a great cheer for the pupils active participation. Comment and summary the lesson review on the board.

MEANING OF STORAGE DEVICES

Storage devices are devices where data or information are storage.

Storage devices are parts of systems unit.

TYPES OF COMPUTER STORAGE DEVICES

There are 2 types of storage devices,

1. External storage devices

External storage is also known as external drives or secondary devices that are not part of the internal parts of a computer.

2. Internal storage device

Teacher’s remark – Today, we are going to learn the second part of Storage devices.

ACTIVITY 2

Teacher’s Activities – Open or guides the pupils to open the system unit. Display a chart showing RAM and ROM for the pupils to locate both devices in the system unit.

Pupil’s Activities – RAM is located here where ROM is located here.

Teacher’s remark – Correct. RAM and ROM are examples of internal devices. Discuss and summary the meaning (types) of internal storage devices.

MEANING OF INTERNAL STORAGES

This is the main storage device inside computer system.

It is called primary storage. Internal storages are found inside the system unit.

TYPES OF INTERNAL STORAGE DEVICES

There two types of internal storage devices –

1. ROM (Read Only Memory)

2. RAM (Random Access Memory)

LESSON 2 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES

Teacher’s Activities – Ask the pupils, what is internal storage devices? How many types of internal storage devices? State them.

Pupil’s Activities – Internal storage devices are the main memory inside the computer. There are two (2) types of internal storage devices – RAM and ROM.

Teacher’s remark – Comment, discuss and summary of the lesson on the board.

MEANING OF RAM AND ROM

RAM is for Random Access Memory.

Random Access Memory is the main computer memory that is used to store running programs and data for the programs.

It is also called primary memory or system memory because it stored and retrieved on the computer system.

RAM store in Gigabyte which makes data very fast.

ROM is Read Only Memory.

Read Only Memory is the permanent part of a computer memory that provides the main storage available to the user for programs and data.

It requires power to keep the data accessible. If the computer is turned off, all data contained in RAM is lost.

RAM store in Megabyte which makes data very slow.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Open or guides the pupils to open the system unit. Display a chart showing RAM and ROM for the pupils to locate both devices in the system unit.

Pupil’s Activities – Locate the computer RAM and ROM in the system unit.

3. Discuss the meaning and types of internal storage devices.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the class discussion, listen and define meaning and types of internal storage devices.

4. Summary the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
