TOPIC – MOTIF, PATTERN AND DESIGN (CARD MAKING AND DECORATION) 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain motif, pattern and design.

2. describe the various nature of cards.

3. state the uses of cards.

4. produce cards for a particular ceremony.

Crayon

Greeting cards

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WEEK 7

INTRODUCTION

Pattern and design are the arrangement of lines or shapes.

Motif is the repeated lines or shape at a regular intervals over a surface. Pattern and shape are very important in card making to communicate the intended messages.

 

TYPES OF MOTIF 

1. Motif in visual arts

MOTIF IN VISUAL ARTS – CARD MAKING 

Card making is the use of designs and/or writing on cardboard to convey a special message.

A card can convey a congratulatory message, condolence message, wishes, and so on.

The message a card conveys depends on its type. Below are types of cards.

TYPES OF CARDS AND USES 

There are different types of card. Each of these cards are used for different occasions –

 

1. Greeting cards

Greeting cards given on special occasions such birthday, Christmas or Sallah, etc. The cards are given to show appreciation, thanks or express other feelings.

 

2. Invitation cards 

Invitation card are used to invite friends, family and well – wishers to special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, burial ceremonies, political and religious events.

 

3. Success cards

Success cards are used to express best wishes in advance, during or examination periods. It is also to express best wishes after someone succeed in a particular field or business.

 

 

4. Seasonal cards

Seasonal cards are used to express best wishes during specific festive seasons, for example, Christmas, New Year, Eid-el-fitri, and Eid-el-kabir.

 

5. Condolence cards

Condolence cards are used to express sympathy to the bereaved.

 

6. Congratulatory cards

Congratulatory cards are are used to rejoice with friends and families on their success, promotion, appointment, wedding, etc.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Discusses various nature of cards.

3. Introduces various kinds of cards.

Pupil’s activities – Arrange various kinds of cards

4. Asks pupils to name the uses of cards.

Pupil’s activities – Name some uses of cards.

5. Assists pupils to produce cards for different occasions.

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
