CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTION 

USE OF ‘MUST’, ‘HAVE TO’ AND ‘OUGHT TO’

There are things you have to do or must do. These are known as obligatory. The are moral duties you must must carry out.

Words used to express your duties are ‘must’, ‘have/has to’ and ‘ought to’.

 

EXAMPLES

1. The assembly will start by 7 o’clock.

 

So, we must be in school before 7 o’clock.

 

2. My dad’s car has a mechanical fault.

So, he has to call a mechanic to repair it.

 

3. Our teacher is carrying many textbooks.

I ought to help her carry some of them.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Presents the sentence items in meaningful context using dialogues.
