PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain the meaning of culture.
2. list types of culture.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of

1. Pictures of people wearing traditional dresses.
2. Pictures showing material and non – material culture.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTION 

MEANING OF CULTURE

Culture is the people’s ways of life of people. These include dressing, dancing, eating, etc.

PEOPLE’S WAYS OF LIFE 

1. The way they dress.
2. The way dance.
3. The food they eat.
4. The language they speak.
5. The religion they practice.

TYPES OF CULTURE 

There are two types of culture. They are material culture and non – material culture.

MATERIAL CULTURE 

Material culture are parts of culture we can make, see, touch and feel.

 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – provides pupils with chart showing different materials culture in Nigeria – pot, basket, beads, mat, horsetail, hat, etc.

 

NON – MATERIAL 

Non – material culture are parts of culture we cannot see but can hear and feel. We can only know them from what people do.

 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – teacher should perform some of these aspects of non materials culture for pupils to identify – sing and dance.

PRESENTATION

• To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions.
2. Through guided questions and role play, leads the pupils to understand the meaning of the word ‘Culture’.
3. Pupil’s Activities – Listen and respond to questions in class and participate in role play.
4. Leads pupil to outline types of culture.
5. Pupil’s Activities – Outline and write types of culture.

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
