PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives – perform the basic skills (kicking and stopping ball) in ball games.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify, describe and demonstrate how to play football.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of playground, balls, etc.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Football is a sport game that requires teamwork, skill and physical fitness.  For kids who love football, mastering the basic skills is the first step towards becoming a great player.

There are different skills in football.

1. Kicking

2. Stopping

3. Passing

4. Dribbling

5. Ball control

6. Goalkeeping

 

KICKING BALLS 

Kicking ball means hitting the ball with your foot so that it moves through the air and on the ground.

 

HOW TO KICK A BALL 

1. Relax your body.

2. Bring your leg back.

3. Point your toes towards the ground

4. Bring your leg forward.

5. Make contact with the knuckle of your big toe.

 

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES 

Teacher organizes outdoor activities to guide the pupils on how to kick a ball.

 

LESSON 2 – STOPPING BALLS WITH FOOT 

Stopping ball means to prevent the ball from moving through the air or on the ground.

 

DIFFERENT WAYS OF STOPPING THE BALL 

The are 5 ways to stop a ball,

1. You can stop the ball with your head.

2. You can stop the ball with your chest.

3. You can stop the ball with your thighs.

4. You can stop the ball with your foot.

5. You can stop the ball with your hands (if you are a goalkeeper).

 

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES 

Teacher organizes outdoor activities to guide the pupils on how to stop a ball with the foot.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher displays chart showing basic skills such as kicking and stopping skills in football.

3. Teacher allows the pupils to identify and describe the game.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and describe the game on the board.

4. Teacher uses the chart and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on kicking and stopping ball. 

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion.

5. Teacher explain and demonstrate basic skills in kicking and stopping ball.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils observe the teacher and take note of the basic skills.

6. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups and guides them for outdoor activities on how to kick and stop ball. Note – Asks for the support and assistance from other staff. 

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the outdoor activities.

7. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board by using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
