4. demonstrate the looks and behaviours of people who take too much food, drink or smoke.

The pupils can demonstrate the looks and behaviours of people who take too much food, drink or smoke.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of charts, pictures posters and drawing materials.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

An overdose is taking too much of substances such as foods, water and drugs.  Too much of foods, water and drugs may be intentional or accidental. Either ways, it is dangerous especially when it is drug overdose. If you take too much of something on purpose, it is called an intentional or deliberate overdose.

An overdose is not the same as a poisoning, although the symptoms can be the same.

CAUSES  OF OVERDOSE (OVER EATING OR DRINKING) 

1. Greediness

2. Skipping meals

3. Favour food or drink

4. Highly processed foods or drink

5. Social situations like parties

6. Medical conditions

7. Unchecked stress

8. Eating too fast

9. Good or bad mood

10. You must finish the food policy

LESSON 2 – SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSE (OVER EATING OR DRINKING) 

The symptoms of overdoes usually start within hours or several days of eating the food or drinking. The following are the symptoms of overdose,

1. Slow walking, talking, etc.

2. Dizziness and confusion

3. Upset stomach or stomach pain

4. Vomiting

5. Diarrhea or stooling

6. Diarrhea with bloody stools

7. Slow, weak or no breathing

8. Too tired

9. Choking, gurgling or snoring sounds

10. Feeling sleepy

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. Teacher revises the previous lesson based on what he/she has taught or the pupils have learned.

2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing sad faces, protruding stomach to emphasize the symptoms of eating or drinking too much.

4. Teacher allows the pupils to examine and describe the contents of the chart.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils discuss the symptoms of eating or drinking too much.

5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on the meaning of overdose and symptoms of overdose.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion.

6. Teacher asks the pupils, why do people eat or drink too much?

7. Teacher uses the pupils relevant responses to explain the causes of overdose.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils listen attentively to the teacher’s explanation.

8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
