PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain what environment means.
2. mention three (3) things found in an environment.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. The immediate environment.
2. Pictures, calendars of various types of environment.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

PUPIL’S ACTIVITIES 1 – IDENTIFY OUR ENVIRONMENT AND ITS FEATURES 

1. Land – houses, grass, trees, rivers and animals.
2. River – fishes, crabs, crocodile, etc.
3. Sky – sun, moon and stars.

Let the pupils know that the land, water and sky are made up of our environment. Guide them to identify the features of the land, rivers and sky. 

PUPIL’S ACTIVITIES 2 – IDENTIFY THINGS IN OUR IMMEDIATE ENVIRONMENT 

1. Human – Teachers, pupils, pastors, imams, doctors, police, etc.
2. Animals – goats, cows, chickens, birds, etc.
3. Houses – schools, police station, churches, mosques, hospitals, etc.
4. Road, cars, motorcycle, bicycle, etc.
5. Carnal, sea, boat, ships, etc.
6. Trees, crops and grasses.
7. Colours – red, blue, pink, white, black, etc.
8. Sky, sun, moon and star
9. Insects
10. Etc.

TEACHER’S/PUPIL’S ACTIVITIES 3 – MEANING OF ENVIRONMENT 

Environment is the physical physical surrounding we live.

Environment is everything that is found within the area or society. This includes houses, bridges, churches, mosques, schools, hospitals and markets.

PUPIL’S ACTIVITIES 4 – DRAW AND COLOUR A HOUSE 

PRESENTATION

• To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Leads pupils out to observe the immediate environment.
3. Pupil’s Activities – Observe carefully and notice details compounds and their neighbours.
4. Assists them to show their awareness on what they see around them and what goes on around them.
5. Pupil’s Activities – Discuss these in class with emphasis on special features of the houses and compounds (colours of the houses).

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
