The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Costumes worn during some festivals, pictures of some costumes, accessories used during the festivals or pictures of the accessories.

MEANING OF FESTIVAL 

Festivals are ceremonies or events that people celebrate by coming together. During the celebration, people eat, drink, sing and dance.

There are different types of festivals – traditional festivals, religious festivals, etc.

TRADITIONAL FESTIVALS

Traditional festivals are indigenous festivals.

It is made up of cultural and spiritual activities which the people have created and developed during the course of history. It is pass on from one generation to and generation.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF TRADITIONAL FESTIVALS 

1. EYO FESTIVAL 

This a traditional festival in Lagos. The masquerade dressed in white garment. He prays for people and collects gift from them.

2. YAM FESTIVAL 

Yam Festival is common among the Igbo. It is the celebration of New Yam Season.

3. MASQUERADE FESTIVAL 

Masquerade Festival is most common among the Yorubas and Igbo.

Masquerade clothes are designed colourful and sometimes, plain like Eyo masquerade. Some of them are with curved images on their head.

4. ARGUNGU (FISHERMEN) FESTIVAL 

Argungu Festival is also known as Fisherman Festival commonly to Sokoto and Kebbi.

The fishermen come out to catch fishes in the river and the man who catches the biggest fish wins a prize.

5. OSUN FESTIVAL 

Osun Festival is the celebration of the people in Osun State.

It celebrates the goddess of the Osun river.

This festival is celebrated once in a year and has made the Osun festival an international cultural festival.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Asks the pupils study and identify different traditional festivals in Nigeria.

3. Discusses the different traditional festivals.

4. Gives examples of traditional festivals and where they are practiced.
