By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. classify animals as domestic and wild animals.

2. state common domestic and wild animals.

2. group domestic and wild animals based on their food.

3. mention other foods eating by animals.

The pupils can state some of the domestic and wild animals.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Animals are living things.

Animals need food and water to live like human beings and plants.

Animals are classified as domestic animals and wild animals.

 

COMMON DOMESTIC AND WILD ANIMALS 

DOMESTIC ANIMALS 

Domestic animals are common animals that live near or around us.

Some of them live on farm or home.

For examples,

1. Chicken

2. Dog

3. Cow

4. Cat

5. Goat, etc.

 

WILD ANIMALS 

Wild animals are animals that live in the wild and survive on their own.

For examples,

1. Lion

2. Hippo

3. Elephant

4. Crocodile

5. Leopard, etc.

 

 

LESSON 2 – FOODS EATING BY THE COMMON DOMESTIC AND WILD ANIMALS 

FOOD EATEN BY DOMESTIC ANIMALS

1. Chicken – grains

2. Cow – grasses, grains, and hay silage

3. Dog – Bones, meat, fish, rice, beans, yam, etc.

4. Goat – grasses and grains

5. Cat – Meat, fish, rice, beans, yam, etc.

6. Horse – grass and hay

7. Donkey – grass and hay

8. Pigeon – grain

9. Duck – cracked corn, oats, rice, birdseed, frozen peas, chopped, etc.

10. Pig – vegetation, roots, fruits, eggs, flowers, leaves, fish, and dead animals.

 

 

FOOD EATEN BY DOMESTIC ANIMALS

1. Lion – other animals and sometimes, eat grass for digestion.

2. Hippo – grass, leaves, fruit, and aquatic plants

3. Elephant – grass, lianas, wild palms, wild bananas, various shrubs, the leaves

4. Crocodile – fish, small frogs, lizards, crustaceans and small mammals.

5. Leopard – other animals

6. Giraffe – grass, leaves and buds on trees and shrubs

7. Gorilla – stems, bamboo shoots and fruits

8. Eagle – other animals

9. Snake – Insects and other animals

10. Antelope – grass

USES OF DOMESTIC ANIMALS 

1. It is used as food. For example – chicken, rabbits, goats, cow, etc.

2. It is sold to make money. For example – chicken, rabbits, goats, cow, etc.

2. It is used for transportation. For example – camel, donkey, horse, etc.

3. It is used for farming. For example – oxen, bullock, etc.

4. It is used for games and sports. For example – chicken, rams, horse, etc.

5. It is used as a guard. For example – dogs and cats.

6. It used for producing meat. For example – cow, chicken, goat, etc.

7. It is used for producing milk. For example – cow, etc.

8. It is used as religious, political or ritual aims.

 

USES OF WILD ANIMALS 

1. It is used as food.

2. Some of the wild animals are used as pets.

3. It is used for producing clothing.

4. It is used as musical instruments.

5. It is used as religious, political or ritual rites.

6. It is used for making hides and skin for leather.

7. It is used as medicines.

8. It more tasty and nutrition.

9. It is sold for money.

10. It maintained balance in the wildlife.

11. It used in medicine for essential research.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays chart showing some of the common domestic animals and wild animals.

3. Lets pupils identify each of the animals.

4. Uses the chart and pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson – domestic and wild animals.

5. Leads a discussion on the meaning of domestic and wild animals.

6. Uses the meaning of domestic and wild animals to ask pupils to classify the animals on the chart as domestic or wild animals.

7. Uses the animals classify as domestic and wild animals to ask pupils to state the pupils eaten by each of the animal.

8. Leads a discussion on the uses of domestic and wild animals.

9. Evaluates and summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Answer the questions, participate actively the lesson summary and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
