PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. collect materials for making doormat.

2. make a simple doormat.

3. market doormat.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of –

old cloth, rope, needle and thread, wood board, nail, knife or scissor, hammer, old rug.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTION 

Copy as I write or draw as I draw. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.

 

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION 

Teacher’s activities – Display sample or chart showing doormat for the pupils to identify and state the uses.

Pupil’s response – This is a doormat and it is used at entrance of a house or bathroom for cleaning the feet.

Teacher’s remark – Listen to the pupils and give a great cheer for quick response.

MEANING OF DOORMAT 

A doormat is flat mat with rough surface placed immediately outside or inside the door.

It allows people to clean the sole of their shoes before coming into the house. It also known as footmat.

 

USES OF DOORMAT 

1. It is mainly used for removing dirt from the feet or soles of shoes.

2. It is used to keep the sitting room and other rooms clean.

 

MATERIALS USED FOR MAKING LOCAL DOORMAT 

Teacher’s activities – Display sample of materials used for making local doormat for the pupils to identify.

Pupil’s response – rope, palm tree, etc.

Teacher’s remark – Note all the materials on the board and give a great cheer for identification of materials used for making local doormat.

The following are materials used for making local doormats –

1. Anyone of the following – Coconut fibre, Palm trees, Rafia trees, Elephant grass, Old cloth or rub.

2. Rope

3. Needle and thread

4. Wood board (30 cm by 40 cm)

 

 

5.Dyes – Colours of your choice

6. Nails

7. Gum or glue

8. Knives or scissors

 

LESSON TWO – MAKING LOCAL DOORMAT 

Teacher’s activities – Group the pupils into four (4) or eight (8) if the size of the class is large.

Pupil’s response – Belong to a group and follow the set of instructions given.

  • Group A – Coconut fibre
  • Group B – Palm trees
  • Group C – Rafia trees
  • Group D – Elephant grass

 

Note – Each of the materials depend on its availability. While other materials remain constant. If not available, make use of fibre and follow the instructions below – 

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FIBRE 

1. Use your knife or scissor to cut the fibres (2 cm length). The fibres can be weave depending on your choice.

2. Use a flat wood board with the required dimension.

3. Rub gum or glue on the flat wood board.

4. Then arrange the fibre on the board with gum or glue.

5. Allow to dry before decoration.

 

FOR OLD CLOTHES 

1. Cut cloth into strips.

2. Tie strips of cloth.

3. Braid all three strips together.

4. Trim ends.

5. Start rolling the mat from one end.

6. Stitch with needle and thread as you roll in circles or nail down to the flat circle board.

7. Roll up to 20 ft long.

8. Then stitch or nail the other end.

 

LESSON THREE – MARKETING OF DOORMAT 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s activities – Lead a discussion on how to market market a doormat.

To market a doormat,

 

 

1. It must look good and strong.

2. The decoration must be simple and neat.

3. It must be display properly.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Asks pupils to state the uses of doormat.

Pupil’s Activities – State the uses of doormat.

3. Lets pupils identify each of the materials used in making doormats.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify each of the materials used in making doormats.

4. Gives each of the groups their instruments.

Pupil’s Activities – Follow the teacher’s instructions.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Pupils to:

1. Name 5 materials for doormat making.

 

 

2. States at least 3 marketing strategies for selling doormats.

3. making local doormat.
