PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain why water sometimes scare.

2. identify and list the causes of scarcity of water in their community.

3. state the consequences of water shortage in Nigeria.

4. suggest ways to solve the problem water water scarcity in Nigeria.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing refrigerator, buckets, water, coolers and deep freezer.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTION 

WATER SCARCITY OR SHORTAGE 

Water scarcity is the lack of sufficient available sources of water supply for domestic, agriculture and industrial usage.

WHY WATER IS SOMETIMES SCARCE? 

1. Climate change

2. Wastage

3. Burst pipes

4. Plant failure

5. Irregular power supply – electricity, etc.

CONSEQUENCES OF WATER SHORTAGE IN NIGERIA 

1. Food shortage

2. Inadequate electricity supply

3. Outbreak of water borne diseases

4. General increase in price

HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM WATER SHORTAGE? 

1. Provision of more water source.

2. Installation of modern facilities.

3. Avoid dumping of refuse in rivers.

4. Avoid wasting of water.

5. More steady supply of electricity, etc.

POPULATION AND WATER SUPPLY 

Increase in Population growth leads to increase demand for Waters, available water supply becomes Inadequate, creates needs for more water.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains water shortage.

Pupil’s Activities – Explain what water shortage or scarcity means.

3. Discuss with pupils the causes of water shortage and how to solved the problems of water shortage.

Pupil’s Activities – State the causes of water shortage and how to solved the problems of water shortage.

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
