PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. list materials required for growing crop production.

2. describe good seeds and stem cutting.

3. state the advantages of using fertilizer or manure and weeds/pests killing chemicals.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Sample of good seeds and stem cuttings.

2. Specimens of manure and chemical.

3. Weed and pest killing chemicals.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTION – OBSERVATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF MATERIALS NEEDED TO GROW CROPS 

 

 

MATERIALS NEEDED TO GROW CROPS 

Whether you’re an experienced or a rank beginner, the basics of growing crops are the same. Plants have simple needs: light, air, good soil and water. To grow crops successfully, among other things you will also need the following –

1. Good seeds – beans, rice, cassava stem cuttings, etc.

2. Fertilizer or manure

3. Weed and pest killing chemicals,etc.

 

ADVANTAGES OF USING FERTILIZER OR MANURE AND WEED/PEST KILLING CHEMICALS 

FERTILIZER OR MANURE 

1. It enrich the soil.

2. It increases crop production.

3. It increases farmers earnings.

4. The texture of the soil improves.

5. The number of microbes increases in the soil.

 

WEED/PEST KILLING CHEMICALS 

1. It kills unwanted plants.

2. It enables the crops to grow well.

3. It leads to increase the crops production.

3. It control pests, insects and plant diseases.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Lets pupils observe and identify each sample of food seeds and stem cuttings (e.g. Cassava stem cuttings), fertilizer or manure, weeds/pests killing chemicals, etc.

Pupil’s Activities – Observe and identify sample of food seeds and stem cuttings (e.g. Cassava stem cuttings), fertilizer or manure, weeds/pests killing chemicals, etc.

3. Lists and discuss with pupils, each materials required to grow crops.

Pupils Activities – Discuss why each materials required to grow crops.

4. Invites a crop protection expert to talk to the pupils on advantages of using weed and pest killing chemicals in crop production.

Pupil’s Activities – Ask questions from the expert invited to talk on the advantages of chemical fertilizers and weed and pests killing chemicals in crop production.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
