CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Copy and Complete the Multiplication Table

MULTIPLICATION TABLE

Teacher’s Activities – Guide the pupils to commit to memory their multiplication tables. Morning drills and daily mental tests would help. At this stage pupils must learn each multiplication table up to 12 times 12.

Instructions –

1. To find 6 x 4, look along the row with the first number 6.

2. Then move along the column until you get to 4.

3. The row and column meet at 24.

4. Therefore, 6 x 4 = 24.

LESSON 2 – MULTIPLICATION OF WHOLE NUMBERS

Pupil’s Activities 1 – Using the multiplication table, what is

1. 2 x 3

2. 3 x 8

3. 5 x 4

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities 2 – Guide the pupils to find the product of

Instructions

Step 1: Multiply the digit 5 by the unit number 3. Thus 5 x 3 = 15

Step 2: Write down the 5 units and carry 1 ten over to the tens column.

Step 3: Now multiply the digit 1 by 3 in the tens column.

Step 4: Add the 1 ten to your answer.

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities 3 – Guides the pupils find the products of

2. 3 6 x 7, follow the example 1.

Pupil’s Activities – Class exercises/Assignments

Find the products of

(1) 47 x 23

(2) 23 x 47

LESSON 3 – MULTIPLICATION OF DECIMALS NUMBERS

Teacher’s Activities 1 – Given Instructions –

Step 1: Multiply the digits without the decimal point.

Step 2: Count the number of digits after the decimal point from the right to the left.

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities 2 – Guides the pupils find the products of 4.7 x 2.3

Step 1

Step 2

  4.7 – – – – 1 digit after the decimal point

x 2.3 – – – – 1 digit after the decimal point

There are 2 digits altogether.

Since 47 x 23 = 1081

Therefore, 4.7 x 2.3 = 10.81

Follow the same procedure in next activities.

Pupil’s Activities – Class exercises/Assignments

Find the product of

(1) 2.3 x 4.7

(2) 4.7 x 7.4

LESSON 4 – MULTIPLICATION OF WHOLE NUMBERS BY DECIMAL NUMBERS AND VICE VERSA

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities 1 – Multiplication of Whole Numbers by Decimal Numbers

Find the product of 47 x 2.3.

Step 1

Step 2

47 – – – – 0, no decimal

2.3 – – – 1 digit after the decimal point.

There is 1 digit altogether.

Since 4 7 x 2 3 = 1 0 8 1,

Therefore 47 x 2.3 = 108.1

Follow the procedure for the next activities.

Pupil’s Activities – Class Exercises/Assignments

Find the products of

(1) 2.9 x 43

(2) 43 x 2.9

LESSON 5 – QUANTITATIVE REASONING

As stated in their quantitative book.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to revise multiplication of whole numbers.

Pupil’s Activities – Follow the teacher’s instructions.

3. Guides pupils to carry out multiplication of whole numbers in 2-digit numbers e.g. 40 × 12.

Pupil’s Activities – Carry out multiplication of whole numbers by 2-digit numbers.

4. Guide pupils to solving quantitative aptitude problems on multiplication of whole numbers with 2-digit numbers.

Pupils Activities – Solves quantitative aptitude problems involving multiplication of whole numbers by 2-digit numbers not exceeding 50.

5. Guides pupils to solve multiplication of decimal numbers by 2-digit numbers.
