TOPIC – SAFETY CLUB AS AN AGENT OF SOCIALIZATION

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the students should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. describe the structure and process of forming road safety club.

2. state the roles of road safety club in the socialization of youths.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. A copy of road safety club guidelines.

2. A picture of road safety club member(s)

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

STRUCTURE AND PROCESS OF FORMING ROAD SAFETY CLUB IN SCHOOLS 

A. ROAD SAFETY CLUB

Road safety club was established as a means of teaching the younger generations with a view to inculcating good road behavior. The Road Safety Club constitutes the third tier of the road safety Corps, Regular Marshals/Special Marshals.

 

The commission used the club as a ‘Catch them Young’ strategy. In order to drive home the sage Road Culture, the Corps Partnered with the NYSC to have road safety as one of the CDS groups during the one year service. While the clubs are established in primary and secondary schools with weekly trainings and different activities to continually ensage the youth.

HOW TO BECOME A ROAD SAFETY CLUB MEMBER RSC

Primary and secondary schools – The schools head can apply to the nearest FRSC Command, whiles to the Commands can also approach schools establish clubs.

 

THE ROLES OF ROAD SAFETY CLUB IN SOCIALIZATION OF YOUTHS 

1. To inculcate into the youths Road Safety Culture as contained in the Highway Code and other relevant road safety books and journals, films etc as approve by the Corps.

2. To assist in propagating road safety ideals and ethics to compliment the effects of Regular and Special Marshals.

3. To monitor and report back to the appropriate FRSC office conditions of road.

4. Reports Road Crash to the nearest FRSC office or any relevant body for assistance.

5. To organize workshops, rallies, public enlightenment campaign, seminars, quiz and debate competitions and any other programme relevant to the promotion of Road Safety.

 

SPEECH BY INVITED ROAD SAFETY OFFICER 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the students some questions;

2.Presents charts on the structure and process of forming road safety club for class discussion.

Student’s Activities – Draw the organigram of road safety club and discuss it.

3. Invites road safety corp officer to give talks on the roles of FRSC in the socialization of youth.

Student’s Activities – Write down the key points of the talk on the roles of road safety in socialization of the youths.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Students to:

1. describe the structure and process of formation of road safety club in schools from an organigram.

2. state the roles of road safety club in the socialization of youths.
