By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. identify tools used for Shape construction.

3. state tools used for Shape construction.

3. construct objects with wood or metal.

The pupils can identify and states shape or objects constructed with wood or metal.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – SHAPE CONSTRUCTION WITH PAPER 

Shapes can be flat and 2 – dimensional, like a rectangle or a triangle.

However, shape construction is the making of different 3-dimensional shapes of objects such as cylinder, cone, funnel, matchbox, etc. using wood or metal.

Materials can be reshaped or constructed by bending, folding, cutting or joining.

 

MATERIALS USED FOR SHAPE CONSTRUCTION 

The major materials uses for shape construction are as follows:

1. Paper

2. Wood

3. Metal

 

TOOLS USED FOR MAKING SHAPES WITH WOOD AND METAL 

1. Scissors

2. Plier

3. Chisel

4. Saw

5. Knife

6. Snips, etc.

 

LESSON 2 – SHAPES CONSTRUCTION WITH WOOD 

TEACHER/PUPIL’S ACTIVITY 

  • Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.
  • Teacher guides and asks pupils in groups or pairs to construct any of the following shapes using wood:

1. House

2. Car

3. Box

 

 

LESSON 2 – SHAPES CONSTRUCTION WITH METAL 

TEACHER/PUPIL’S ACTIVITY 

  • Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.
  • Teacher guides and asks pupils in groups or pairs to construct any of the following shapes using metal:

1. House

2. Car

3. Box

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions.

2. Teacher displays sample of objects (or chart) constructed with paper, wood and metal.

3. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.

4. Teacher asks pupils to identify and differentiate between the objects.

5. Teacher uses the sample or chart to introduce the lesson.

6. Teacher leads a discussion on the meaning of shape construction.

7. Teacher asks pupils make a list of objects that can be constructed using wood or metal.

8. Teacher helps the pupils to state the tools used for constructing shapes using wood or metal.

10. Teacher guides pupils to construct simple shape of objects using wood or metal depending on the available materials.

11. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the lesson summary and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
