PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain what is energy.

2. list different forms of energy.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Heat from fire, sun, machine, etc. Light from sun, touch light, sound from radio, battery from many devices.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Relevant charts and pictures

2. Candle

3. Torch light

4. Gas

5. Oil

6. Charcoal

7. Kerosene

8. Solar panel in surrounding

9. Radio

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION

Energy is the fundamental need of our everyday life. So much so, that the quality of life and even its sustenance, is dependent on the availability of energy. Energy is everywhere around us and takes different forms. For example, it takes energy to cook food, to drive to school, and to jump in the air.

 

MEANING OF ENERGY 

Energy is the ability to do work or get work do.

Something only happens when energy is changed from one form into another form. This enables energy to be used to do work.

Energy is used to lift things, to heat up our food, give us light, power the car and generators etc. A machine is an energy changer. It changes one form of energy into another more useful form.

 

FORMS OF ENERGY 

1. Mechanical energy

2. Chemical energy

3. Electrical energy

4. Heat Energy

5. Light Energy

6. Solar Energy

7 Sound Energy

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Leads pupils to perform some activities such as lifting different objects with different size.

Pupil’s Activities – Follow the teacher’s lead.

3. Guides pupils identify the energy used for lifting objects.

Pupil’s Activities – Pupils identify power as energy.

4. Asks pupils to say what they understand by energy.

Pupil’s Activities – Explain what is energy.

5. Lists types/forms of energy on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify different types/forms of energy.

6. Discusses the forms of energy.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively class discussion.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Pupils to:

1. explain what is energy.

2. list five (5) forms of energy.
