By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain the meaning of security.

2. take the precautions against dangers.

3. identify the various sources of danger and insecurity.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Textbooks, pictures on road accidents and fire outbreaks.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

INTRODUCTORY QUESTIONS

3. Why did you lock door and window before going to bed at night?

4. Why did we switch off all our home appliances when we are going out or travelling?

5. Why did we have security in our community and  school.

MEANING OF SECURITY OF LIFE AND PROPERTY 

Security is the state of being free from all dangers or harms at home, in the school or anywhere you are. That’s, feeling safe at all time.

For example, when you at home with the doors or gate are locked and you feel free, safe and relax.

Insecurity is when you are not feeling safe or free from dangers.

 

 

SOURCES OF DANGER AND INSECURITY 

The following are common sources of dangers,

1. Road accidents

2. Fire outbreaks

3. Relationship with stranger

4. Kidnapping

5. Eating unsafe food

6. Fake drugs intake, etc.

 

PRECAUTIONS AGAINST DANGERS 

1. Do not talk to a stranger.

2. Do not get into a stranger car.

3. Do not pick call if not your parents calls.

4. Do not open the door if you are alone.

5. Do not play with any chemicals.

6. Do not drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes.

7. Call for help if there is a fire.

8. Do not play on the road or ride bicycle on highway.

9. Eat a good and well cook food.

10. Do not take drugs unless you were ask to.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to explain the meaning of security.

Pupil’s Activities – Contribute ideas to the meaning of security.

3. Guides pupils to identify sources of danger and insecurity.

Pupil’s Activities – Find out other sources of insecurity.

4. Directs the role playing fire outbreaks/road accidents.

Pupil’s Activities – Dramatize fire outbreaks/road accidents and appropriate response.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Pupils to:

1. explain the meaning of security.

2. give examples of sources of insecurity and precautionary measure.
