PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. state the uses of farm animals.

2. identify farm animals based on their uses.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Goats, Cows, Chickens, etc.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Picture of animals used for transport, guard and food.

2. Pictorial display of animals with farm implements attached.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Displays chart showing domestic and wildlife animals for the pupils to identify farm animals only.

 

 

USES OF FARM ANIMALS 

1. It is used as food.

For example – chicken, rabbits, goats, cow, etc.

 

 

2. It is sold to make money.

For example – chicken, rabbits, goats, cow, etc.

 

2. It is used for transportation.

For example – camel, donkey, horse, etc.

 

3. It is used for farming.

For example – oxen, bullock, etc.

 

4. It is used for games and sports.

For example – chicken, rams, horse, etc.

 

5. It is used as a guard.

For example – dogs and cats.

 

6. It used for producing meat.

For example – cow, chicken, goat, etc.

 

7. It is used for producing milk.

For example – cow, etc.

 

Teacher’s Activities – Guides the pupils to give an example of animals used as food, product of buying and selling, transportation, etc.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to identify:

  • Food animals,
  • Transport animals i.e. beast of burden,
  • Animals that work on the farm.

 

 

Pupil’s Activities – Identify the animals used as food, transport and for farming.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
