PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. identify nose as sense of smell

2. identify food, fruit, fish, etc. through sense of smell.

3. detect pleasant and unpleasant smell.

4. classify smell as pleasant and unpleasant smell.

5. appraise the importance of nose in their daily activities.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can differentiate between pleasant and unpleasant smells.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of fruit, bean, rice, fresh fish, etc.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION (DETECTING VARIOUS ODOURS) 

Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class to close their eyes in order to detect various odours of,

 

1. Rice

2. Beans

3. Bread

4. Orange

5. Tea, etc.

 

SENSE OF SMELL (NOSE) 

Nose is part of our respiratory that help you breathe in and out.

It is one of the sense of organs that enables us to smell.

 

IMPORTANCE OF NOSE 

The importance of nose are as follows:

1. It allows air to enter our body.

2. It provide us with sense of smell.

3. It filters and cleans air you breathe.

4. It warms and moistens air

5. It enables us to detect pleasant and unpleasant objects.

 

 

LESSON 2 – DETECTING PLEASANT AND UNPLEASANT SMELL 

Based on the existing groups or pairs, guides pupils to state,

 

1. 10 pleasant food or substance.

2. 10 unpleasant food or substance.

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST) 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays different food or substance in a close container.

4. Teacher call a representative from each group or pair to detect the object by smelling.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify food substance by smell.

5. Teacher uses the food substance to introduce the lesson and leads a discussion on the meaning of sense of smell and its importance.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.

 

7. Teacher guides to differentiate between pleasant and unpleasant substance with appropriate examples.

Pupil’s Activities – Describe pleasant and unpleasant smell.

8. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding to the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
