Two Letter Words

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. listen to one-syllable words and recognizes words that begin with the same letter sounds.

2. recognise words that end with same letter sounds.

3. identify rhyming words.

4. identify beginning and end sounds.

5. blend sounds from one-syllable words e.g. ex, to, my, do, etc. and

6. segment one-syllable words into separate letter sounds.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify and pronounce some of the two letter words.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Word cards

2. Audio tape

3. Tape recorders

4. Listening game.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to identify and pronounce two and three letter words correctly.

3. Uses pictures to lead pupils to identify sounds heard at the beginning and ending of the words e.g. dog, cat, etc.

Pupil’s Activities – Take turns to identify sounds of letters.

4. Guides pupils to –

  • identify and count the number of sounds in a syllable.
  • identify letter sounds at the beginning, middle and end of spoken words.
  • blend letter sounds to form words.
  • segment to form words.
  •  and segment word into letter sounds.

Pupil’s Activities – Follow teacher’s guidance and play listening games: listen to poems, rhymes etc. and clap each time they hear a word.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

Ask pupils to:

1. identify beginning and ending sounds in one syllable words.

2. clap to the number of syllables in words.

3. form three – letter words by blending letter sounds and

4. recognise letter sounds at the beginning, middle and ending of one syllable words.
