PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

mention ways of helping someone who has abused drugs.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify people who have abused drugs.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Charts/posters illustrating some methods of taking medicines.

2. Resource person

3. Charts of health centres and health personnel

4. Posters showing a drug addict.

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTION 

Copy as I write or draw as I write. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Allows the guest speaker to give talks on how to help someone who has misused drugs/medicines.

Pupil’s Activities – Active participation, ask and answer questions.

Teacher’s remark – Give a great cheer for active participation and note each point of discussion on the board.

Copy as I write on the board.

WAYS OF HELPING SOMEONE WHO HAS ABUSED DRUGS/MEDICINES 

1. Reporting any change of behaviour to parents, teacher and other adults.

2. Seeking medical attention

3. Always keep the person under strict watch.

4. Pray for them.

LESSON 2 – SONGS, RHYMES, POEMS OR DRAMA TO DISCOURAGE DRUG ABUSE 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Teaches pupils songs and rhymes that discourage drug abuse.

Time is consuming.

I struggle removing temptation and sorrow for a better tomorrow.

I’m tired of losing in hopes that I’ll find some peace in my mind.

Distorted perception, thoughts of deception, memories that are haunting of the drug I’m still wanting.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Invites resource persons to give talks on:

• How to identify someone who has misused drugs.

• How to help someone who has misused drugs/medicines.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the guest speaker, ask and answer questions.

3. Teaches pupils songs and rhymes that discourage drug abuse.

Pupil’s Activities –

• Sing songs.

• Recite poems/rhymes.

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Dramatize caring for people who have abused drugs.

4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
