PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. state the meaning of drug abuse.
2. recognise someone who has abused drugs/medicines.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils can state different mode of taken drugs.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Charts/posters illustrating some methods of taking medicines.
2. Resource person
3. Charts of health centres and health personnel
4. Posters showing a drug addict.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTION

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Lead the pupils to identify and discuss the drugs that are commonly abuse. Listen them and note each point on the board.
DRUGS THAT ARE COMMONLY ABUSED
The types of drugs that are commonly abuse are as follows –
1. Prescription Drugs
2. Alcohol
3. Palm wine
4. Heroin
5. Cocaine
6. Inhalants such taba (tobacco leaf).
LESSON 2 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
Teacher’s Activities – Invites resource persons to give talks on how to identify someone who has misused drugs.
Pupil’s Activities – Active participation, ask and answer questions.
Teacher’s remark – Give a great cheer for active participation and note each point of discussion on the board.

WAYS OF KNOWING SOMEONE WHO HAS ABUSED DRUGS
1. Untidy appearance
2. Drunken behaviour
3. Frequent fighting
4. Disobedience
5. Convulsion
6. Inattentiveness
7. Having frequent accidents.
A SHORT DRAMA
Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Guide the pupils to demonstrate or act the behaviours of people that abused certain drugs.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Asks the pupils to state the behaviours of people that abused drugs as palm wine, beer, cigarette, Marijuana, etc.
Pupil’s Activities – state and demonstrate the behaviours of people that abused drugs as palm wine, beer, cigarette, Marijuana, etc.
3. Invites resource persons to give talks on how to identify someone who has misused drugs.
Pupil’s Activities – Listen, ask and answer questions.
4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
