PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. mention the components of civic education.

2. explain the meaning of nationality.

3. state the conditions for acquiring the nationality of a state.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Some of the pupils can mention their state of origin.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing the components of civic education

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

COMPONENTS OF CIVIC EDUCATION 

1. Nationality

2. Right and duties

3. Democratic practices

4. Community values.

 

MEANING OF NATIONALITY 

Nationality is an official right that make a citizen of a particular country.

 

LESSON 2 – CONDITIONS FOR ACQUIRING A NATIONALITY 

There are three of conditions of acquiring a nationality,

1. Nationality by birth/adoption

2. Nationality by registration

3. Nationality by naturalisation

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Leads pupils to identify their place of birth and state of origin.

Pupil’s Activities – State their place of birth and origin.

 

3. Guides pupils to identify themselves as a citizen of Nigeria (if they are).

Pupil’s Activities – Identify themselves as a citizen of Nigeria (if they are).

4. States the conditions for acquiring a nationality.

Pupil’s Activities – State the conditions for acquiring nationality.

5. Summarizes the lessons on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
